The Wonderful World of Wednesdays, Silly Mommy Phrases and the Celebration of Reformation Day!!

Trucks, Trucks and more Trucks!!!

The Garbage Truck

Two trucks at once.. its the best day ever!!

The Recycling Truck!!

And last but not least... the ever so faithful Mail Truck!!

Wednesday's are another day that the Lord has blessed us with to share His love with those around us!! Wednesdays are also hump day... youre almost half way through the work week!! Wednesdays are often days of ministry, like our small group gets together tonight!! Wednesdays are days we look forward to because Daddy doesn't work, he only has his internship and 2 classes!!

But since Brighton turned one... Wednesdays really have taken on a new and utterly exciting meaning, probably only to families with toddler boys... honestly, some Wednesdays we hold off on napping just to see those amazing trucks drive by!! And sure enough, they turn down the road way far away, past the big oak tree that hangs over, blocking the view... but this little man of ours knows they are coming even when they can't be seen yet!! Oh and ps... you had best not be standing in the way of his beeline to the front window or the front door... because you WILL get trampled!!

Random Mommy Phrases...

You know how all of our mother's have these silly phrases that they use to describe things in life. They really arent on a specific topic but there are ones that stick in the back of your mind, making no common sense at all in your life but they are there. When you hear them, you almost don't even ponder the true meaning behind them because they are: what mommy says!! I know Ive contributed several of my own since Bright came around and our faithful friends here in Wake Forest always giggle when I used my silly words and phrases!!

But this morning... this morning was the morning that it all clicked!! I opened the front door quickly to let Macey run out to potty and come back in. And as I stood in the door way shivering, I noticed the frost and ice on the rooftops, cars, mailboxes, grass and so on. Right then, I looked down to the steps of our front porch.. and I got it:

"Frost on the Pumpkins!" I thought and chuckled to myself!!

You see, silly it sounds, this is an endearing phrase that my mom always says when its cold outside and especially since Bright was born and he would get chilly going to and from the car or when we are out walking. It never made sense... it was always a sort of a pretend alarming phrase... lead by an "Oh no".. and then the "frost on the pumpkins."

The first frost came this year while the pumpkins were ripe for picking and sitting around on peoples front porches!! Thats why it is said "frost on the pumpkins." The first frost of the fall!!

So yeah.... you may be reading this and pondering: "Wow, Becca really has nothing to do or think about or analyze these days!!" Or it may just make you smile, thank God for our wonderful loving Mommies that He has given us and think about all the silly things that some day our children will look back and giggle!!

Happy Reformation Day, by the way!! It commemorates Dr. Martin Luther's posting of his Ninety-five Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany on October 31st, 1517. This act triggered the movement in world history known as the Reformation.

In honor of Martin Luther and other Christians who removed false doctrine and destructive practices from the Christian church.

Now that is something to celebrate every Oct 31st!! The tradition color is red for the Holy Spirit and Christian Martyrs!! ANd the song that is song for this day is: A MIGHT FORTRESS IS OUR GOD!!

1. A mighty Fortress is our God,
A trusty Shield and Weapon;
He helps us free from every need
That hath us now o'ertaken.
The old evil Foe
Now means deadly woe;
Deep guile and great might
Are his dread arms in fight;
On earth is not his equal.
2. With might of ours can naught be done,
Soon were our loss effected;
But for us fights the Valiant One,
Whom God Himself elected.
Ask ye, Who is this?
Jesus Christ it is.
Of Sabaoth Lord,
And there's none other God;
He holds the field forever.
3. Though devils all the world should fill,
All eager to devour us.
We tremble not, we fear no ill,
They shall not overpower us.
This world's prince may still
Scowl fierce as he will,
He can harm us none,
He's judged; the deed is done;
One little word can fell him.
4. The Word they still shall let remain
Nor any thanks have for it;
He's by our side upon the plain
With His good gifts and Spirit.
And take they our life,
Goods, fame, child and wife,
Let these all be gone,
They yet have nothing won;
The Kingdom our remaineth.
[edit]Hedge
A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God's own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.
And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God's truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.
