When we returned from vacation we were not quite sure what state our yard and garden would be in!! Needless to say our herbs did not have any issue with the fact that there had been NO rain the entire time we were gone. We have quite an abundance of lavender, rosemary, peppermint, basil, oregano, lemon balm, pineapple mint, chocolate mint, chives, parsley and thyme!! And much to my excitement, our sunflowers and zinias were flourishing. I count this quite a victory seeing that the sunflowers and zinias grew from seeds ($1 at Target) and they along with the new herbs were all planted 3 days before we left for TN and vacation (10 days.) I won't comment on how long our yard was or the fact that the mower gave out on me half way around the house or the nastiness of our weed situation. I went out this afternoon to clip around the picket fence and along the box woods since I do not know how to work the edger yet. As I walked to the mailbox, I noticed a tremendous weed growing up on the side of the corner of zinias. As I stealthfully approached it, as if it was going to run, I realized it was actually a sunflower growing up out of our grass. I guess God had other plans for the garden than we did... it did make me smile though and reminded me that He is in control and worthy of praise!! What a privilege it is to worship a God who nothing is a surprise to and had a perfect and wonderful plan, even for our garden and for our lives, before the world began :) Doesn't that beautiful fact bring the utmost peace to your soul?
God is soo good :)
Oh and Ps- I think next year maybe I'll be brave enough to try vegetables... thank you to all of you who inspire our gardening and share with me your tips and lessons learned :) For now though, we will stick with Todd's next door to admire!
