"One Man's Trash Is...."

...Our "Treasure"

Grammy visited this past week and we had some great adventures at the Flea Market, yard sales as well as local thrift shops. It has been a really long time since the Flea Market actually felt like it was supposed to... reasonable prices and lots of treasures. Old shutters, hat/coat rack, primitive tool boxes, small window, quilt rack, etc.

Goodwill was even amazingly full of "treasures" too...

The greatest find of all....

A wooden bean bag toss game... we found at Goodwill for $20. Two free standing wood boards, netted holes, 8 bean bags, storage holder and carry bag!! It is not my grandpa's original back in the ol' days when we would play every summer in the suburbs of Chicago.... but itll certainly do. You should of seen my mom and I dancing around in Goodwill last night, the clerk thought we were crazy!! What an incredible family tradition to introduce to my husband and son FINALLY... if you need us, you can find us in the front yard this summer. And for all you KY folks.. I think you call it "cornhole" or something :)

We also found some really neat toys for Bright for $1 at a local yard sale (Tonka tractor/tiller, etc) and a Little Tykes basketball hoop... which Bright totally gets the hang of. He is trying to figure out a way to kick it in the basket though... its in his blood :)

We were saddened as we conversed with several vendors about how the economy was effecting their decisions as families and preventing them from continuing to have booths there. Lots of people closing up shop to change jobs and provide for their loved ones. This made me remember a few things:
1) that everyone around us has a story and sometimes just needs someone to ask how they are doing and to converse with
2) the importance of supporting your local vendors and farmers
3) how thankful that even when our economy (gas, groceries, etc) is looking depressing... we have a sovereign Lord who will always provide for His children and has control of even the most uneasy situations in our eyes :)
